THE BELL with fire & pyrotechnics from the World Famous
A 360 degree promenading performance, The Bell marries theatricality and spectacle and is inspired by the visceral imagery of Tarkovsky’s film Andrei Rublev and Kurosawa’s epic Ran.
Echoing recent world events, The Bell begins with an angel of war calling a clan to defend its land from invading forces. A spectacular conflict takes place in and around the audience and the clan is beaten by an army of stilt-walking wraiths and fire-wielding soldiers.
The survivors call upon the public to help them rebuild and the creation of a gigantic flaming bell provides a climax to the struggle - a unifying symbol of hope in this ultimately uplifting story.
Co-commissioned by Hastings Borough Council, The National Theatre, Made in Brighton and Winchester Hat Fair. Supported by Arts Council England.
