Drawing inspiration from the brass band traditions of Eastern Europe and the rebellious spirit of global street music, Orkestra del Sol’s presence is captivating, their characters enthralling and their music brings to life a performance delivered with humour, exuberance and great energy: the swagger of a Balkan wedding band with the flair of Latin carnival.
On stage, the 10-piece band have a commanding presence, sweeping audiences along with their unique brand of musical theatre and their charismatic performance. Playing from a repertoire which includes calypso, polka, cocek, porro, tango, waltz and samba, they compel crowds to enjoy dances they never thought they could do. As a walkabout act they pop up around the next street corner and create interactive havoc on unsuspecting crowds. Their seemingly impromptu appearances always conjure up an instant party atmosphere - even your Gran will like it ...they'll probably end up teaching her to dance the polka!
2007 has proved a great success for Orkestra del Sol, both in their native UK and internationally. With bookings at all the UK’s major street festivals, headline slots at established music festivals and sell-out shows across Britain and India, these maverick brass troubadours are now set to blaze a trail across Europe. Having won over audiences worldwide with their infectious energy and unruly charm, Orkestra del Sol returned home in August to the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, where their brand new Fanfare show received 5-star reviews and achieved record ticket sales during a hugely popular run at The Famous Spiegeltent.
