mimbre
Female acrobatic trio
Mimbre fuses world-class acrobatics with theatre and dance, using a unique physical language to tell stories and create imagery.
The shows transform non-conventional arts settings to stages – an unexpected place for an audience to get lost in a world of humour, energy and visual poetry
“mimbre is a contemporary acrobatic company consisting of three women with energy enough to power the national grid.”
British Theatre Guide
Mimbre was formed in 1999 when Emma Norin, Lina Johansson and Silvia Fratelli graduated from Circus Space. The acrobats challenged the circus stereotype of big base throwing little flyer in the air, instead achieving high technical standard through clever techniques and hard training.
“The female trio mimbre astonish with their excess of poetic agility.”
Journal de Tourcoing
The company has toured their shows extensively over 4 continents and have amazed thousands of audience members across the world with their strength, agility, grace and skill! As well as their touring shows the company provides acrobatic acts for cabaret and galas as well as taking part in other company’s productions.
“Fluidity, rhythm and humour are the three defining qualities of mimbre.”

The Bridge
Co-commissioned by National Theatre ‘Watch this space’ and Winchester Hat Fair, funded by Arts Council England
mimbre’s new show ‘The Bridge’ is a collection of short stories all held together by the structure on and around which they take place. The three acrobats take on the roles of a multitude of characters through simple but imaginative means and play out scenes that range from adrenalin fuelled acrobatic feats to beautiful, dreamlike choreographies.
Through captivating incidents and clues the central story unfolds as the audience is treated to wild adventure and slapstick as well as reminders of darker undercurrents…
The bridge itself is a dramatic and beautiful set that draws the audience into the world of the performance, and creates a buzz of anticipation and curiosity in any setting.
The show previews at Laban, London at end of May 2007 before touring the UK.

Sprung
The visual beauty and humour of this piece communicates to a wide and varied audience.
Inspired by circus, capoeira, dance and theatre clown, “sprung” is a stunningly choreographed piece of street theatre, an extraordinary acrobatic story encapsulated within a musical voyage.
It can be performed either as an outdoor theatre; where the elastic backdrop neatly transforms the street, park or square into a stage; or as part of a cabaret, double bill or other indoor events. With lights this show becomes magical, keeping the audience transfixed from the atmospheric beginning through to the energetic acrobatic end!
Duration 25 minutes.
“A new side to movement arts, quite unlike any other group we’ve seen. The piece builds dance and acrobatics into a whole where neither side is a token. They’re renowned among those who know – state-of-the-art movement theatre/dance!”
Bath Fringe Festival
Trip-tic
‘Trip-tic’ deconstructs the seemingly everyday lives of three women, secrets develop, some discovered, some left un-turned. A show of physical brilliance, humour and beauty; performed with mimbre’s inimitable style of dynamic acrobatics and choreography.
Performed on and around three high, specifically designed towers, this is a highly visual piece of acrobatic theatre, enriched by an ingenious musical score.
‘Trip-tic’ is created for medium to large scale, out door performances or as an self standing show in a bigger indoor venue (i.e. arena, shopping centre).
Running time approx. 40 min.
“..the three-some kept their Watchers enthralled in a display which appeared endlessly inventive and imaginative, often humorous but always with a dark side. Beauty, danger, menace and sheer physical ability combined'.
